Descripción: Urbanization has greatly reduced natural habitats. In a big city as Rome, the surviving biodiversity hides in the most unexpected places. These European Green Toads (Buffets viridis) are copulating in the House of Vestals, in the Roman Forum, inside the city center.
Here, a little populations of these endangered amphibians, lives hidden among ancient roman buildings, coming out only in the night.

Descripción: During that night of fieldwork as a biology student I saw several animals hit by cars, from invertebrates to amphibians and reptiles. It is a well known problem, and I am sadly used to it. But then I saw this little owl (Athene noctua) and when I decided to take a fast photo I realized that its breeding partner was there, calling and flying over the dead owl, trying to understand what happened.
