8 March. Letter from Roser Gruart, President of MontPhoto

Dear friends of MontPhoto.

 We live in complicated times, with regressive and destructive global policies, with great challenges to the conservation of our natural environment and the social rights we have achieved.  Now, more than ever, it is crucial that we stand together as a committed collective.

 Today, as we celebrate 8 March, International Women's Day, MontPhoto joins millions of people around the world in demanding lives of freedom, equality and full justice.
 From my position as president of the organisation, I would like to make a special appeal to make visible and empower women in the field of nature photography.

 Our contribution on this day is once again to pay tribute to the small percentage of women in the world of nature photography.  There is still a lot of work to be done for full equality, and that is everyone's job.

 I invite you to join us in our collective effort to create a better future, where the diversity of voices and perspectives enriches our understanding and appreciation of the natural world.

 This year, for the first time in MontPhoto's history, a woman, Irma Szabo, has won the Honorary Award, marking an important milestone in our journey towards equality. 

 Together, we will forge a future in which nature photography is a powerful tool for change, conservation and equality.

 Let us remember that MontPhoto is a medium for showcasing powerful images and giving voice to powerful messages.  Our aim will always be to create spaces of encounter and dialogue that are fundamental and necessary for real change.

 I encourage you to participate actively, to share your experiences and to support especially the women photographers in our community.  Every image you capture, every story you tell, contributes to our collective mission to protect and celebrate nature.

 MontPhoto needs you to make this vision a reality.  Our next festival, to be held from 3-5 October in Lloret de Mar, will be a perfect opportunity to join this cause and continue to inspire each other.  With determination and hope.
