What is the prize? The contest awards €13,700 in cash and many more in various prizes in kind, accommodations, experiences, materials. See the rules for details.
There is a very high level. How can I win?The level of the contest is high due to the large participation of very high quality works. This should not be a reason to be discouraged. The jury's criteria are based on photographic quality, technical difficulty, etc., but also on the originality of the works and other factors that may vary in each edition taking into account the set of submitted works. In addition, with your participation you are collaborating to keep alive a contest where the only objective is the dissemination and protection of what we like most: nature photography.
When will I hear if I have won an award? If you are one of the finalists, you will receive notification by email in mid-June, in which you will be asked for the RAW for verification. At the beginning of July, the authors of all the awarded works will receive the communication for your attendance at the contest Festival.
In addition, all the awarded images will be part of the MontPhoto 2025 traveling exhibition.
The final verdict of the selected works will be made in Lloret de Mar at the awards ceremony that will take place at the Municipal Theater of Lloret de Mar, on the first Friday of October.

Is it necessary to put a special name on the files? No, all photos are automatically renamed when uploaded. However, it is recommended not to use special characters to avoid system errors.
Can I submit the same photograph in more than one category? No. You will have to decide in which category you want to register each photograph. In this sense, the organization cannot advise you.
What do I do if I have a photo that could be in several categories? For example, a mammal or bird underwater, a plant with insects, a very creative landscape, etc.As photographs cannot participate in more than one category, it is best to think about which one may have better acceptance.
If any photo happens to have very high ratings and they think it could have more options in another category, either by intervention of an evaluating jury or the supervising team, the organization can discretionally change the photograph to a more appropriate category.
What are the phases of the contest?Registration on the website www.montphoto.com, registration in the contest by web and payment of fees, uploading the works through the web, several rounds of evaluation by the jury, final verdict. The winning works will be announced at the awards ceremony in Lloret de Mar on the first Saturday of October.
What image formats do you request? It must be taken into account that the participant must be in possession of the original RAW of the image. Initially it will only be necessary to upload the image in the format indicated in the registration (jpg at 1920). The RAW must be available in case it is requested for checks or if it reaches the final phase, and in this case the optimized image must be sent for printing.
What image size is uploaded to the website and what will you request later for enlargements and verifications? The photo must be EXACTLY 1920px on its longest side. If it is not, the website will not accept it. The jury will see it at that size.
Subsequently, for the photos that reach the final phase, the raw files and high-resolution files (at the maximum possible size and always greater than 10Mp without resizing) are requested, which will be used for verification, and if it is finally awarded, for the exhibition and catalog.
Despite uploading the image at 1920, it looks smaller on the website, why?The general view of the images cannot have such a high measurement for obvious reasons of network resource optimization. The images are automatically resized to a smaller size.
Even so, the jurors will view the images at the full size as they were uploaded to the website.
The same participant will always be able to see their works at full size in their personal menu, as they have uploaded them.
Is it mandatory to put a description? The description of the images can be much more important than it seems, especially in the final phases.
The website requires you to write something initially, but any character is accepted. Without a description, it can reach a final phase where the author will be asked for the RAW files, the high-resolution jpg for printing (if selected) and here it will be mandatory to write or revise the description for the final phase.
Can I repeat individual Portfolio images in another individual category?Yes. The portfolio photos are evaluated as a whole, but any image can be included individually in any category.
What forms of manipulation are not acceptable and why?Manipulation is not allowed and adjustments must be very limited.
The objective is to achieve a true representation of a natural form, behavior or phenomenon.
Photos are accepted according to the established requirements, where they are determined unsuitable for:
- Unauthorized alteration of the original photograph, such as distortion of dimensions or transformation of perspective.
- Excessive global or zonal processing values.
- Detection of alteration or modification of pixels in specific areas of the image (removals, cloning or manipulations).
- RAW acquisition options not allowed such as “Superposition” or “Non-sequential Multiple Exposure”.
It is recommended to read the technical requirements in detail.
Can I participate with black and white photos?Yes, you can participate with black and white images, but there is no specific category for it. The allowed adjustment elements will be homologous to those of color.
Can I flip the photos 180° horizontally? It is not allowed. Although a priori it may seem like an innocent change, it can change the documentary value and give rise to controversies where the orientation is essential.
What activities does the mountain activity category include? This category is an evolution of mountaineering, climbing and mountain sports photographs when MontPhoto began as a mountain photography and hiking activity. Currently, any sporting activity carried out in the natural environment is accepted in this category.
The trend is to expand the range of activities in nature and eliminate those that cause harm to the environment such as motor sports, mass races in vulnerable natural spaces, winter sports on ski slopes, etc.
What will you do with my photos? Do I keep my rights? The photos are only used for exhibition and promotion of the contest or activities associated with MontPhoto, always non-profit.
Any additional use must always have the author's approval.
Of course, the author fully retains their rights over the image and MontPhoto only has the non-exclusive assignment of use, in the terms described in the rules.
I want to organize a dissemination activity. Could I count on the MontPhoto traveling exhibition?Yes, the MontPhoto traveling exhibition is available, you can see the details in the MontPhoto exhibition dossier, or request information by email or phone.
