Amy Jones wins the 2025 MontPhoto Award

Press:
A denunciation of tiger trafficking wins the MontPhoto international photography award.

The MontPhoto festival presented its 29th edition of awards in Lloret de Mar, recognizing the best nature and mountain photographs of the year. For the first time in the competition's history, a photograph of an ecological denunciation took home the overall award.

The photograph "Breeding Machine" by British photographer Amy Jones captures the dramatic reality of a caged tiger, a victim of illegal animal trafficking. The international jury selected the winning images from more than 13,000 photographs received from around the world.

A lucrative illegal business

Approximately 100 tigers, 30,000 elephants, and more than 1,000 rhinos are killed each year to traffic their bones, skin, tusks, and horns. Jones's photograph documents this reality with a visual power that moved the jury.

The honorary award also represents a significant milestone, as it is the second time a woman has received the overall award, demonstrating a shift in the jury's mentality and greater female participation in nature photography.

The international jury, composed of Morgan Heim, Diana Crestan, Heike Odermatt, Francis Pérez, and Eladio Rodríguez, selected first and second prize winners and five honorable mentions in each of the competition's 11 categories.

The award-winning categories ranged from mammals, birds, and other animals to plant life, landscape, underwater world, ecological commentary, and art in nature.

The Awards Gala was held on October 4th as part of MontPhoto FEST, a festival committed to conservation and seeking to inspire the protection of nature. An event that featured exhibitions, workshops, and presentations by international experts: Morgan Heim, Samuel Aranda, Rachel Bigsby, Francis Pérez, Heike Odermatt, Nuria López Torres, Jon A. Juarez, George Dian, Jesus M. García, and the competition winner herself, Amy Jones.

A list of awards is available in the attached files.
