MontPhoto is a leading international nature photography COMPETITION from Spain that highlights both the images presented and its authors.
MontPhoto is a festival, a meeting place for enthusiasts and professionals from all around the world that takes place each October in Lloret de Mar.
MontPhoto is a traveling exhibition, present in national and international circuits.
MontPhoto is a publication, Inspired by Nature, which contains the most beautiful images submitted to the contest and reflections from various prominent figures.
MontPhoto is an open and yet genuine and familiar character which for over 19 years now, has been gaining more photography and nature enthusiasts.

History, the origins
In 1997, in a town on the Costa Brava, in Lloret de Mar, was born a great little project: Montbarbat Trophy. A nature and mountain photography competition, product of youthful illusions and a love for photography.
'Since its foundation, one of the goals of our entity was to broadcast mountain activities to Lloret inhabitants. We soon realised, that apart from the activities themselves, the best way to achieve this was through images' Josep Carreras (Chairman of the Hiker Center of Lloret de Mar).
Back then, in 1997, the contest had two categories: mountain and nature, 72 participants and no more than 340 entries.
Today, MontPhoto receives thousands of photographs every year from all around the world, and they are shown in a traveling exhibition, the book inspired by nature, in the [online galleries] (link), and are published in the best magazines in the scene. This gives us the chance of having a wide diffusion of the works submitted and all their authors.
Our festival, MontPhoto FEST has become the leading meeting point in Spain for enthusiasts and professionals from all around the world.
Over the years, the important thing has not changed. We remain faithful to our character and we keep a close and authentic spirit.
Mission and Philosophy
Our mission has been to recognize the value, to promote and broadcast the art of photography and to contribute to the environmental defense, the conservationism and the environmentalism.
Our philosophy:
We believe that photographic competitions should not be a goal themselves, but rather a tool to achieve a major and bigger purpose: the diffusion of the contest’s works and its authors.
Itinerant exhibitions, catalogue or book editions, on-line diffusion, congresses and festivals attendance, are some of the essential elements associated to competitions, creating a meeting point where acts, lectures, book presentations, audiovisuals and many others take place, this is the festival, this is what MontPhoto FEST is.
The quality of a contest is not always related to the quantity of its awards but rather to the quality of its content, its projects and its activities. These things are difficult to find nowadays, mostly due to the huge number of existing photo competitions.
