Cargando el futuro de Joan de la Malla de Barcelona (Barcelona)
Place: Ketapang, Borneo (Indonèsia)

After the terrible fires that hit the island in 2015 the number of orphans increased considerably. Luckily, the IAR carries out a fantastic job that allows it to re-introduce the majority of these orangutans after a few years. In the meantime, they live in partial freedom conditions. In the picture, a caretaker carries the babies from their dorms to the area where they spend the day.

Abejas de Alejandro Peiro Llop de Valencia (Valencia)
Place: Chiva, València (Espanya)
Description: The picture shows a beekeper holding about 200 dead bees (Apis mellifera). The use of legal pesticides in the fields close to the hives is resulting in massive deaths of bees. This is happening all over Spain and the consequences in the long-term could be catastrophic. Without insects there is no pollination.

Nightlife de José Antonio Martínez Sáenz de Murchante (Navarra)
Place: Tudela, Navarra (Espanya)
Description: Thousands of millions of mayflies (Ephoron virgo) fly over the bridge of the Ebro river attracted by the dim light of its street lights. What looks like a show is actually an episode of light pollution, a lethal trap for almost all of them. They end up dying and creating a thick layer on the pavement without breeding. It is a scenery showing the beauty of life and the drama of death.
