Description: Descripció: Elephant tusk from an African Savanna Elephant (Loxodonta africana) killed by poachers in the Sera Wildlife Conservancy. The price of ivory has doubled in the last three years, and the increase in poaching is the result of demand coming from the Far East and China. Arrests continue at Nairobi's International Airport. In 2012, among many others, 345 pieces of raw ivory weighting 601 kilos were intercepted at Jomo Keniatta International Airport in a single cargo towards Nigeria.

Rhino kill de Juan Pablo Moreiras de Mondariz (Pontevedra)
Place: Reserva de Lewa, Kenya
Description: Melita, a critically endangered Black Rhino (Diceros bicornis) shot dead by poachers inside the Lewa Conservancy in North Kenya. Melita, a two tones female who was 22, was killed by three Somali men armed with Kalashnikovs, at nightfall close to the northern perimetre of the reserve. After a brief exchange of fire with the rangers, the poachers were able to escape towards the Somali border.

The Chase de Cristobal Serrano de Alicante (Alicante)

Description: Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge is a sanctuary for the West Indian Manatee, (Trichechus manatus latirostris), where the waters are home to over 400 manatees and is the only place in the United States where it is not illegal to swim with them. You can find big groups of snorkelers who are chasing and stressing these endangered animals. The preservation and conservation of their estuary habitats represents the only possibility of survival for the decimated populations of these beautiful and majestic yet threatened creatures.

Description: There are few animals less suited for captivity than the Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus). This specimen from the Singapore Zoo spent most of his time looking outside, waiting to be fed, the only time of the day that seemed to motivate him.

Description: Unfortunately, in the Marrakesh Souk it is very easy to find many animal species (frequently protected and endangered) in conditions of captivity and stress, to attract tourists, like this Common Chamaeleon (Chamaeleo chamaeleon).

Medusa vs plástico de Francisco Javier Murcia Requena de San Pedro del Pinatar (Murcia)
Place: La Manga del Mar Menor, Múrcia (Espanya)
Description: The Mar Menor coastal lagoon is a true garbage dump. When diving in the summer, a strong east winds brought hundreds of plastic bags to the lagoon. They seemed to merge with the jellyfish, very abundant in the lagoon. The Mar Menor is suffering the human activity in the last decade, and the plastic pollution is more than evident. See, as an example, a garbage bag and a Barrel Jellyfish (Rhizostoma pulmo)...its end: in the middle of the sea and the stomach of many marine organisms.

¡Ahogada! de Alejandro Betoret López de La Laguna (Santa Cruz de Tenerife)
Place: Punta del Hidalgo, Tenerife (Espanya)
Description: Loggerhead Turtle (Caretta caretta) stranded on the coast of the fisherman's town of Punta del Hidalgo, in Tenerife. The turtle was tangled in ropes, nets and other fishing gear, so I gather it drowned.

Description: A Little Owl (Athene noctua) watches from one of its perching sites with the Thermal Plant of Andorra (Teruel) in the background. Many animals, even the most-elusive ones, have had to learn to coexist with humans and the alterations we have caused to their habitat.
