Entangled de David Salvatori de Cerveteri (Rome)
Place: Tenerife (Espanya)
Description: After spending a whole day in the open ocean, we spotted a Loggerhead Turtle (Caretta caretta) on our way back home that was found completely entangled in a very big plastic bag, usually used by fishermen. After taking pictures and videos of the turtle, I was chosen by my fellow photographers in the boat as the one to have the honor to set the animal free. September 2019.

Street shows de Joan de la Malla de Barcelona (Barcelona)

Description: A Long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis) and its trainer rest briefly while waiting to restart a street show. The empty space between them shows the disagreement that exists between them.

On sale de Joan de la Malla de Barcelona (Barcelona)
Place: Surabaya (Indonèsia)

You can often find threatened species that are sold secretly, and this is where macaque (Macaca fascicularis) babies captured after killing their mothers usually end up. Each macaque is sold for less than 20 dollars.

Protect yourself - Protect the ocean de Korbinian Grad de Simbach (Bayern)
Place: Tarifa, Cadis (Espanya)
Description: I took this photo on my first day out after doing quarantine here in Tarifa, Spain. The impact plastic has on the ocean in Tarifa is horrible, and it is boosted by the strong offshore winds we have in this area. I have a whole collection of photographs showing plastic pollution in the south of Spain. It is just sad to see what we are doing with the underwater-world! PROTECT YOURSELF - PROTECT THE OCEAN

¡Tenemos las lineas ocupadas, oiga! de Pere Soler Isern de Castellfollit de la Roca (Girona)
Place: PN dels Aiguamolls de l'Empordà (Girona)
Description: This obsolete high-voltage wire crosses the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà National Park. Thousands of Common Starlings (Sturnus vulgaris) stop here to rest overnight, increasing the tension of the wire. At some point, the cables touch each other and let go of an electrical shock like the one pictured in this picture. Every year, many birds die because of this wire, most of them big birds like storks, flamingos and egrets.

Wedding shooting de Joan de la Malla de Barcelona (Barcelona)
Place: Phuket (Tailàndia)
Description: On some beaches in Phuket (Thailand) exhausted Asian elephants (Elephas maximus) undergo long wedding photo sessions. These grotesque sessions take place in the outskirts of the city and with many couples at the same time, often dressed similarly and performing similar scenes. Elephants spend long hours on the beach because of these couples, and go through a very hard training in order to learn the tricks necessary for those kind of photos.

Save me de Juan Carlos Fajardo Juan de Villa de Otura (Granada)
Place: Cadis (Espanya)
Description: Some zoos are far from international standards of good practice. This is the case of the zoo at Castellar de la Frontera, where people can physically interact with the animal and only a glass separates the two. And let’s not forget the tiny space in which this group of baboons (Papio sp.) live. Animals living in captivity and used to interaction with human beings.

Gorilla in a box de Juan Carlos Fajardo Juan de Villa de Otura (Granada)
Place: Madrid (Espanya)
Description: Western Gorillas (Gorilla gorilla) are always on the move. They hardly ever stay in one place for more than one day. Keeping a group of gorillas locked up in small and anti-natural spaces makes their behaviour change, leading to a change in their conduct, stress and depression. Animal captive in a zoo, not forced to behave the way it does.

The Beggars de Andrew Upton de Buffalo (New York)
Place: Harajuku, Tòquio (Japó)
Description: Three Asian Small-clawed otters (Aonyx cinereus) are kept in this “otter café” in Tokyo. Café guests feed the otters through small holes in the tank. This way of feeding them has made the otters dependent on humans and this begging behavior is the result. This photo exposes the heartbreaking reality behind the exploitation of this IUCN Red Listed species. Not induced, I waited for the otters to line up naturally.
