Description: A couple of young European Praying mantis (Mantis religiosa) within the dry leaves of a surrounding plant. It was probably taken shortly after hatching because there were many around in a very limited area. The picture has been turned around by 90º.

Description: This image shows a bunch of tussock moth (Lymantriinae) eggs while hatching: the caterpillar crawling out of the shell with its jaws, and soon eating its own shell for nutrition purposes. This picture was taken in the city of Hezhou, in the Guangxi Province.

Description: A beautiful specimen of Short-tailed blue (Cupido argiades) rests on a African lily (Aghapantus sp.) flower while it waits for the sun to activate its hemolymph and start its frantic activity. Despite its size it is one of the most beautiful butterflies in the Iberian peninsula.

Description: I was looking for insects by the river in the morning and I saw mayflies (Ephemeroptera) on the branches. They were posing very neatly. As I was about to take a picture, a damselfly (Zygoptera) suddenly flew over, making the actual picture more interesting.

Description: The interactions between frogs and spiders can go both ways. In the Neotropic region, spiders are the main predators of small amphibians. In this case, this banana spider (Cupiennius sp.) was devouring the eggs of a Emerald glass frog (Espadarana prosoblepon) living in the woods of the Ecuatorian forest. In nature, one life is taken in order to keep another one.

Dragonflies de Samuele Parentella de Besana in B.za (Monza e Brianza)
Place: Besana in Brianza (Itàlia)
Description: In August, many of these Red-veined darter dragonflies (Sympetrum fonscolombii) stay in fields close to their homes. I had to wait for a storm to lower the air temperature in order to be able to enjoy the quietness of the subjects in the morning. Using the backlight at sunset and the water drops on the grass, I managed to take this atmosphere-full picture without leaving the details and colours of the main subject out of it.

Description: This tiny crab spider (Thomisidae) mimetizes perfectly with the little bellflower it lives in. It patiently waits for a possible prey, and any unfortunate insect attracted by the flower will very much certainly be exposed to death if it comes too close.

Description: In summer, I went to the Ticino River Park near to my hometown, and, while I was crossing a grassland, I noticed a praying mantis (Mantis religiosa) hanging on a grass stem. I quickly took some pictures of this insect, using the last moments of natural light. My goal was to highlight the silouhette of the mantis in order to evidence its shape and, in particular, its predatory arms.
