My photo shows an Alpine Newt (Ichthyosaura alpestris) eating frog eggs. I put my camera in an underwater case, which I placed under the frog's eggs. I preset the focus and waited. I took the picture with a homemade remote control as soon as I felt that the Alpine Newt was placed in position, and I illuminated it with a LED lamp, so you can see its silhouette.
Usually I spent 15-18 nights photographing mayflies (Ephoron virgo) every summer. I have been taking photos on the quiet summer nights about the Danube mayfly have swarmed for 12 years. The life of mayflies is only few hours long and their swarming dates are unpredictable. They came only after sunset, and afterwards more and more started to "dancing" just above the water surface.
A Blunthead tree snake (Imantodes cenchoa) in Costa Rica. It is a fairly common species that preys on sleeping geckos at night. I used a flash from below and took care to shoot at a shallow depth of field to lose the rest of the body so that only the lighter parts are visible in dots.
A beautiful Male Cryptic or Blue-legged Chameleon (Calumma crypticum) resting on a branch during the end of a rainy day, very well camouflaged and almost asleep while dusk is setting in. Ranomafana National Park, Madagascar
At The Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve (Danaus plexippus) in Michoacán, Mexico, a newly arrived butterfly joins the others for the night, stretching its wings as it makes its way to the popular resting place. The extreme closeness of the butterflies offers protection and warmth.
Giant peacock moth (Saturnia pyri) is the largest insect in Europe. As in this shot, the males have combed antenen capable of receiving the pheromones of the females at considerable distances. In this photo a male is trying to find his partner on the slopes of Monte Corchia in the UNESCO Park of the Apuan Alps.
A snipe fly (Chrysopilus sp.) searches for nourishment among the debris of the undergrowth. Often these small insects vary greatly in their diet and their usefulness within the family, with many different species ranging from being necrophilic, frugivorous, ammophilous up to species specialized in pollination. In the vegetation, as well as finding food, they also look for protection.
